I’ve turned the forums back on so that folks can backup their blog entries. If you would like the forums to stay up more permanently just say so.

The forums have officially been taken offline.  Do not despair, however, as the data is still there and can be recovered if there is anything that you need.

Also, if you had an account on the forum, you have an account on the blog system!  You may create your own blog or comment on another member’s blog.

So, I am considering merging the bluejavamug site blog with my own personal javafiend blog on bluejavamug.com.  I had originally intended for the bluejavamug blog to be for site updates, notifications, and generally used as the overall CMS for the site.  With the impending doom of the forum, I’m beginning to see little use for an overall site management blog.  However, I’m sure there are advantages to keeping the two separate like not bombarding folks with my ramblings as soon as they navigate to the site.  I’d really hate to run off the 2 or 3 people that may visit the site once or twice a year ;).

Anyway, what do you think?

You may have seen an email regarding this, but for those who infrequent this interwebs local, here’s the message:

The forum at bluejavamug.com will be taken down soon.  I am looking at the end of the month to do this.  This gives me a chance to change my mind, I guess.  I will backup the database so posts and blogs can be retrieved if you haven’t had a chance to do so by the time it is taken offline.  The site will still be here, along with the Wordpress blogs.  Feel free to contact me, or my better half, with any questions.

This is primarily due to me wanting to be lazy and not maintain it anymore.  There are the storage space limitations from my host to consider, also.  I no longer have the “unlimited” storage space I had before, which was probably an administrative oversight anyway, and now only have a meager 150MB.  If you had blog posts on the old system or favorite forum posts, I suggest you copy them.  However, if this doesn’t reach you in time, fear not!  I have a backup

Of course, with enough encouragement (like one or two people asking me to keep it up) I might be persuaded not to bring the forums down.

Hint hint - my b-day is just around the corner…

On June 11th we had another user on besides me!!!!!!!  If I could give laflormorena (Chubba, Gabbie, Sis) a prize I would.  Just goes to reaffirm that this site is not completely pointless.
